Today on the blog I’m happy to have Stacey, who I consider a long time blogging partner in crime at this point. I love her fashion forward takes on boys clothing, and today is no exception.
That said, no matter which woven fabric I choose, the ribbed knit side panels allow for the stretch and comfort this kid demands of his clothing. While the fit of the pant is skinny through the leg it isn't constricting for active kids who are constantly running and jumping around the playground or moving about on the carpet at school. The pattern is sized 18m-8 years, and I'm thrilled with the hip width which gives a perfect fit without the pesky "plumbers crack" problem that you find with ready-to-wear, store bought skinny pants. Since my boys tend to grow slim and tall, this is really important.
As with all Blank Slate pants patterns, the pattern comes with a flawless full zipper tutorial. I've been sewing Melissa's patterns for years now and I have to admit that I still get a sewing high every time I finish a fully functional zipper. And if you haven't sewn one before, don't worry a bit because Melissa explains it all so even a novice sewer can sew a zip fly. Also, since the elastic waist is only in the back of the pants, you get a nice, flat front waistband.
Contrary to the dreary, gray skies that have plagued us all week, the Fall temperatures haven't shown themselves yet around our parts. Once they do, I can't wait to see these pants paired up with a knit cardigan and a beanie. Or a flannel shirt and some boots! He'll be styling in his Super Skinny Pants as we enjoy the Fall events in our hip, little town.
