Today Teresa has a quick tutorial that has a lot of impact – making the Beachy Boatneck from two fabrics. Read on to see how…
I think I might be in denial that summer is coming to an end. I would love every single one of our days to be filled with hours spent in the water. Either the beach or the pool, I’m not picky, I just would love days and days spent in the water. My girl, Sweet Pea, is right there with me. She’s a water loving girl. But sadly, she needs more than swimsuits to fill out her wardrobe.
Sweet Pea was in need of a few wardrobe basics, so I looked through Blank Slate Patterns and found the Beachy Boatneck. This pattern is perfect!
I made just a few changes, to suit the fabric I had on hand. I recently sewed the Marianne Dress (you can see it here) and had this white knit and striped knit leftover. I knew it’d be the cutest boatneck for Sweet Pea, so I set to work. Want to make a colorblocked boatneck too? Here are the easy steps.
1. One inch below the top of the side seam, draw a horizontal line through your front and back pattern pieces. Cut along the line.
2. Add seam allowances to this new seam.
3. Cut out your fabric, and sew the top fabric to the bottom fabric. (In my case, I sewed the white to the striped fabric.)
4. Finish following Melissa’s instructions to sew the rest of your shirt!
A couple other changes I made were to shorten the sleeves. I love a sleeve that stops right at the elbow. I also lengthened the top by 2 inches for my tall girl. And I finished the neckline using this tutorial! That’s it!
Whew…now get out and enjoy the last few weeks of summer!
