Hey y'all - some more boy inspired sewing for you today! Spring weather can be tricky, particularly in a place like Austin. One day it's a gorgeous 75 degrees and sunny, the next day it's 50 degrees and cloudy. So even though you might think of flannel as a fall/winter fabric, it's entirely appropriate for spring here. This is a Bookworm Button Up pattern that I sewed for Tater in Robert Kaufman mammoth plaid.
The only modification I made to the pattern is the one you can see below - I cut the outer yoke on the bias.
I also made one size up for Tater so this will still fit him in the fall. And he didn't have gloves when we shot these photos, so the extra long sleeves came in handy.
Because this flannel is double sided, it was a little thick. To reduce bulk around the collar, I used a very thin chambray (scraps from the original Bookworm, in fact) for one of the collar stands and the underside of the collar. I also skipped interfacing the collar since I felt the flannel had plenty of body on its own.
I really love the hand of this flannel and it paired very well with the Bookworm Button Up. But even more than that, I love that I thought to order enough to keep some for myself! Now I just have to decide what I want to make with it...
