Hey y’all, welcome to prints month on the blog! I’m stealing a Blank Slate Post from my team today to share a plaid Novelista Shirt.
One of the perks of being a fabric designer is getting samples of fabric before they’re released. A while back, I got a sample of Yes, Please plaid in Rose Gold from Riley Blake, and I promptly emailed and begged for more to make myself a Novelista Shirt. I was so excited that they agreed to send me some yardage! Not only is this fabric cute, the metallic rose gold washes up perfectly soft – not stiff and scratchy like some metallic quilting cottons I’ve worked with.
Funny story about these pictures. I had originally gotten the Coach to take some pics of the shirt when we did a little staycation in downtown Austin for our anniversary. He’s getting pretty good, and he nailed my look that day in just a few shots. And then I got distracted while uploading them and erased all of them. Agh!
So I kept trying to get new pictures, but then it started raining…and raining…and also it’s football season so the Coach isn’t home a lot. So these pictures are ones I had to get my Dad to take. Thanks Dad!
And then I liked the fabric so much, I had to use my scraps to make a pair of Barton Shorts…which, when worn with this top, also make pretty snazzy pajamas. And luckily since I was working inside I could take pictures of this look myself.
The Barton Shorts with straight hems and no pockets sew up in a flash, so that was nice too! These are the 3 inch inseam version.
I love playing with plaids on the diagonal, so I cut the pockets, sleeve cuffs, collar, and plackets on the bias.
Get your own copy of the Novelista Shirt and Barton Shorts in my shop – with all the options they come with, you could mix and match so many ways!
