Hello! Melissa from Made by Melli here to share a project I sewed up for my active little guy. He is 4 years old and as wild as it gets, so comfortable clothes sewn with knit fabrics are a must! The Tee x 3 was the perfect pattern to sew this staple t-shirt for my son’s wardrobe.
The theme for this month is “Sewing with Knits,” and I love sewing with knits! Knits are comfortable and forgiving, and there are a lot of patterns for knit fabrics that sew up rather quickly. With 3 kids at home, quick sews are my jam! Sewing with knit fabric can seem intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never look back.
The fabric I used for the body of this shirt is a print from Girl Charlee that I’ve had in my stash for at least a couple years. It’s 100% cotton jersey, and my little guy loves those moose! The fabric for the neckband needed to have more stretch & recovery, so I used an orange 95/5 cotton/lycra from Purpleseamstress. To tie in the fabric for the neckband, I also did the sleeves in the same orange cotton/lycra. This dude loves orange. 🙂
If you can’t tell from the pictures, we’re in the middle of a snowy winter wonderland here in Utah! The Tee x3 pattern is loaded with options and features 2 sleeve lengths & 3 necklines. The long sleeves are perfect to get us through the winter, and I have plans for a hooded version as well.
Once Spring hits, I can use this same pattern to bulk up his warm weather wardrobe, too! The Tee x3 also has an optional Peter Pan collar & keyhole back that will be perfect for my daughter. I just love a versatile pattern that can fill so many roles at once! No matter what climate you’re sewing for, the Tee x3 is a versatile, functional staple pattern that you can fill your kids’ wardrobes with!
