Hello Blank Slate Patterns fans! This is Mònica from Ma, me, mi… mo, bringing you a complete outfit I’m sure you’ll love as much as I do. It is the Fairelith Top paired with the Tillery Skirt. (aff links)
When Melissa told us that “Gifts” would be the blog tour theme for December, I immediately thought of sewing something for a special someone in my life. As a means to say thank you and show my love. My third baby is now 6 months old, and all this time I’ve spent 24 hours a day, 7 days a week taking care of her and the entire family. I didn’t want my other kids to think that mummy was too busy with the baby to spend time with them, so I’ve been working to the max and I’m exhausted. As wives and mothers, we give so much of ourselves!
I couldn’t have done it without a few of those special someones and their help. One of them is my mother, who is a great mum and also a fantastic grandmother to my three kids, she really helps me a lot. I cannot forget my grandmother, who is 90 years old and the loveliest and sweetest person I have ever met, always willing to take care of the baby. Or my workmate too, who is absolutely gorgeous and took all my responsibilities while I was on maternity leave. All of them deserve it. They are inspiring women and I am thankful for having them around.
And then, I also thought that I would be there for them too, and that what I would like the most in return for my support, is seeing them become stronger and capable of dealing with it all. And that is when I decided to use my time to make ME stronger and beautiful, so that they felt proud of their support and love for me. Consider taking your time to take care of yourself, just as your loved ones do for you when you need it the most. It is also a way of showing them love and thankfulness.
The Tillery Skirt was love at first sight. It is an A-line skirt with a snap closed front placket. It can be sewn in mini, knee or midi length. Its design allows you to sew it in a summery medium-weight fabric or use a warmer fabric to wear it with leggings or tights in cooler weather. I made mine from a dark cotton denim with some stretch from Telaria.
I paired the skirt with the Fairelith Top. It has raglan sleeves and a ballet neckline that includes two views: a swing and a fitted version. My top is the swing one with long sleeves and I sewed it using a fabulous dark grey knit from Happy Fabrics. It took me two hours from taping to wearing, so it’s a good option when you “have nothing wearable” in your closet to go out with friends.
Please, choose one thing you can do for you every day. It can be a small one (like taking your favorite cup of tea or listening to some music), or something bigger like spending two hours sewing for you. Your family and you are going to welcome it!
Thank you for reading. See you soon!
