Hello! I’m Mònica from Ma, me, mi… mo. I’m really excited to share with you my new top. It is a modified Wild Flower Top and you’re gonna love it.
My belly has grown a lot since my last post. My due date is in 6 weeks, so I am pretty obsessed with sewing garments that fit me AND that are nursing friendly. The Wild Flower Top is just perfect and it satisfies all my needs.
To ensure the best fit, Melissa includes amazing step-by-step explanations on how to adapt the top to your body measurements. First of all, you need to choose your size based on your bust, and then take two additional measurements -the underbust and front bust measurements- to customize the pattern. It sounds tricky but it is not. After that:
- I added 2.5 inches to the back bodice and the lower front
- added some width to the lower front to create gathers before sewing it to the bodice piece
- modified the inner bodice as shown in the picture below
- lowered the front neckline
- used the short and the bell sleeves (Yes! Both!)
Using a contrasting knit for the inner bodice and the short sleeves pattern pieces creates a funny faux layering look and adds some visual interest. Don't you think?
I used a fabric with a lot of drape. It is an amazing grey polyester with 3D silver dots that I found at a local market. I don't remember its price but it didn't cost me more than 2€/m. The white and pink striped fabric is a cotton knit with some spandex from my stash.
It is very comfy but stylish at the same time. I love to pair it with jeans to go to work.
Thank you so much for reading. See you soon!
