Today Abby is sharing her Catalina Dress with us…and making those of us feeling the chill a little bit jealous of her sunny Australian weather.
Hi everyone, Abby from Things for Boys here! I've sewed up a Catalina Dress to share today.
This dress is comfy...very comfy. I can see that I'm going to need more of these. Summer is well and truly here in Melbourne, so a wardrobe full of easy dresses is just what I need.
The pockets are awesome. Everything should have pockets on it. I had to run outside and bring the washing in because it started to rain and I managed to fit all the pegs in the pockets. Fabulous! The binding finish on the neck and shoulders makes it a nice quick project and there are no facings to worry about tucking in.
The only change I made to the pattern was to leave off the ties on the waist elastic and enclose all the elastic. I measured between sizes so I need to make a couple of changes to the pattern to fit me better next time. The front waist sits a bit higher than the back and the shoulder seam is sitting back a little. I think adding an inch to the back shoulder strap should fix both issues. The waist feels like it sits a little high all over, so I think extending the waist half an inch would fix that.
I've already bought some more fabric to make up another version, this time in a nice mint stripe. I can't go past a knit fabric...it makes the comfiest dresses. I love the look of the cap sleeve variation and the maxi length which will make it feel like a completely different dress. Now I need to schedule in some more post holiday sewing. Happy holidays everyone!
