Today Suzanne has a super cute version of the Ruffled Cardigan – which could be a fall staple for little girls!
Hey BSP readers, Suzanne Winter back again from Pattern Revolution. I love fall!!! As in LOVE LOVE LOVE fall. I love the cooler temperatures, the changing leaves, the rich colors, and particularly the cuteness of layering clothes on cute kids.
For this project, I snapped up the Ruffled Cardigan to make for Mack. Cardigans are great for kids. They give an extra layer of warmth on cool mornings and evenings, while allowing for a cooler layer underneath if the temps spike mid afternoon or their pre-school is warm. They are also quick to make and don't take a lot of fabric, so you can make one for your little in every color imaginable! The reversible aspect of the cardigan also means that you can get two looks for the effort of one - gotta love that.
The Ruffled Cardigan come in sizes 18m-8. I made Mack a straight 6, which is what she wears in store bought and where she fell on the sizing chart. I am so sad that she is starting to get close to the end of the BSP size chart....hopefully we have at least another 2 years left!!!
I modified the pattern a bit for this version. I wanted to use some lace from my stash rather than the full ruffle in the original. As I was working with the lace, I realized that it was a little bit scratchier than I originally thought. Since the ruffle is supposed to go up around the neck, I decided it was time for a change . I decided to have the lace only go along the front and stop at the shoulder and side seam. This meant hemming the back, and adding a neck band to the back neck. Two easy changes that gave me the look and comfort I wanted.
This mustard stripe from Girl Charlee is just perfect for fall. And will look perfect with anything from jeans to a dress. I considered adding a lace belt for this one, but decided that I enjoyed it most unadorned. I want to try one in a stretch velvet for the holidays - how cute would this be over a holiday dress!!!
Am I the only one who gets super excited when all my stripes line up!!!! |
I love the clean finish with the full lining of the cardigan, and I know Mack will be getting many more of these to add to her fall wardrobe. Don't miss out on this fun and versatile wardrobe staple - grab your Ruffled Cardigan now.
