Hello, this is Eveline from Frölein Tilia and I’m sharing my Auberley dress today. (aff link)
I’ve wanted to sew the Auberley dress since I saw the beautiful example my friend Fleurine made. And so now here I am, with my Auberley Boho-inspired summer dress version.
I had a concrete picture in mind of what my new summer dress should look like:
Romantic with frills, made from a flowing fabric, in other words: a Boho-Chic dress!
I chose a navy rayon challis fabric for the dress. A light and flowing material, just as I had imagined.
To give the dress that kind of Boho touch, I sewed frills into the princess seams, as well as in the neckline.
For the frills I cut 6cm wide strips and sewed them in strongly ruffled. Since the entire top is lined, there are no uncomfortable seams. To underline the romantic style, I added some matching ribbons next to the frills.
What caused me some trouble was the question: Which size do I sew? Normally my size is 8, but Melly gives the following instruction to this pattern: “To ensure the best fit, start by choosing your size based on your high bust measurement.” The point is, I have a Y-figure, so my back is pretty broad. According to the chart, I should have sewed the dress 2.5 sizes larger. Because I wanted the dress to be a bit loose-fitting, I decided to sew the front part of bodice two and the back part three sizes larger.
Instead of gathering the skirt I made some shirring by sewing 5 rows at a distance of 1cm apart. Thanks to the shirring, the skirt has pulled together nicely in the waist and keeps the loose-fitting top in shape. As I didn’t want the waist to be too high, I also extended the bodice by 3 cm.
I chose the V-neck, which is included in the Auberley Hack Pack. (aff link) However, I drew the neckline a little deeper and wider so that I had enough room for the frills.
And since I wanted a summer dress, I shortened the sleeves. I compared the sleeve length with a summer dress that I made recently and shortened the length accordingly.
And because it’s a summer dress and I like shorter dresses in summer, I shortened the skirt length a bit.
I am absolutely thrilled with my new summer dress and can recommend Auberley to everyone.
And don’t worry: Since it has neither a zipper nor a button placket, it’s not too difficult to sew.
Have fun sewing!
